1. Introduction and data controller
Ayiru is an entertainment platform in West Africa that connects service providers (hosts) with customers for booking spaces, activities, events and equipment. This privacy policy describes how we collect, use and protect your personal data.
The controller of your personal data is AYIRU. For any question about your data, or to exercise your rights, you can contact us at contact@ayiru.com.
2. Data we collect
We collect the following data when you use our platform:
- Registration data: surname, first name, email address, profile photo (via Google, Apple or email sign-up)
- Photos: images you add to your profile or to your listings (for hosts)
- Location data: precise GPS position, collected only from hosts when they place a listing on the map
- Booking data: details of the bookings you make (dates, places, amounts)
- Payment data: transactions are processed by our payment provider KKiapay; we do not store your banking details
- Technical and usage data: IP address, device or browser type, pages and screens viewed, interactions within the application
3. How we use your data
Your data is used to:
- Create and manage your user account
- Process your bookings and payments
- Send you notifications about your bookings (confirmations, reminders)
- Improve our services and your experience
- Keep the platform secure
4. Sharing your data
We never sell your personal data to third parties. Your data may be shared only in the following cases:
- With the hosts concerned by your bookings: your name and the booking details (date, slot, number of people, amount), which are necessary to deliver the service. This information may be sent automatically to their own management tool. Your email address is disclosed to them only if you have expressly allowed it, by ticking the dedicated box at the time of booking. That box is unticked by default, your consent applies only to the booking concerned, and you may withdraw it at any time from Profile → Settings → Privacy: sharing then stops immediately, including for your past bookings. Without that consent, a host can still reach you through Ayiru messaging. Your phone number is never disclosed to hosts; your mobile money number is passed on only if you request a refund, in order to make the payment.
- With KKiapay, our payment provider, in order to process your booking transactions
- With PostHog, our analytics tool, in order to analyse use of the application and improve our services
- With our technical providers (hosting, email delivery, notifications) strictly within the scope of their work
- Where the law requires it, or to protect our legal rights
4a. Promotional messages
We only send you promotions, listing recommendations or news if you have asked for them. These are switched off by default and are enabled from Profile → Settings → Privacy, where you can turn them off at any time, free of charge and without having to give a reason.
This choice is separate from messages related to your bookings — confirmation, reminder, cancellation, a message from a host. Those are part of the service you requested and reach you whatever your promotional settings: switching them off would deprive you of the confirmation of your own booking.
5. Storage, security and retention
Your data is stored on secure servers. We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, loss or destruction.
We keep your personal data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes described in this policy:
- Account and profile: for as long as your account exists
- Bookings and payments: up to 10 years, in accordance with our accounting and tax obligations
- Messages: kept for the duration of the relationship, for dispute handling and security; their content is anonymised when you delete your account
- Technical logs and payment events: up to 12 months
- Analytics data: kept for as long as is necessary for statistical monitoring of the service
6. Your rights
You have the following rights:
- Access: obtain a copy of your personal data
- Rectification: correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Erasure: request the deletion of your account and your data. See our Account deletion page for the procedure.
- Objection: object to the processing of your data for specific purposes
- Portability: receive a copy of your data in a structured, reusable format, or ask for it to be transferred to another service
- Withdrawal of consent: withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out
To exercise your rights, contact us at contact@ayiru.com.
You may also lodge a complaint with the competent personal data protection authority.
7. Protection of minors
Ayiru is intended for people aged 13 or over. We do not knowingly collect personal data concerning children under 13. Users under 18 (aged 13 to 17) must use the platform under the responsibility and with the agreement of a parent or legal guardian, in particular for any booking or payment.
If we learn that a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will delete that information as soon as possible. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a minor in your care has given us data, contact us at contact@ayiru.com so that we can put it right.
8. Cookies
Ayiru uses cookies that are essential to the operation of the platform (authentication, session preferences), as well as analytics tools to understand and improve the use of our services. We do not use advertising cookies.
9. Changes
We reserve the right to change this privacy policy at any time. Changes will be published on this page with an updated date.
